Be very careful w/ misinterpreting this. Yes, all good hitters drop their rear shoulder during the
swing. However, you will usually see that when they arrived at
launch (their stride foot touched down), their rear shoulder was higher than the lead.
My son has been struggling w/ this same thing and only recently (past week) have I latched onto this as the main issue for us to tackle. I had noticed (as had others) that he was drastically tilting his head over the plate and back towards the catcher during his swing. Then I filmed him again this week and saw the shoulder line.
I had been trying to get him to "relax the lead elbow" and "stride to balance" and other cues unsuccessfully. Then last night, at a lesson, the instructor pointed out that his lead shoulder should be lower during his stance (tho I don't care as much about the stance as the load).
He was already making better contact last night, and we'll see tonight/tomorrow how it works during games.
But I'd suggest you review MLB clips at launch and check for the shoulder already dipped then.

Sandman
