Drop 3rd strike

If the batter turns back to go to the dugout on a drop 3rd strike then runs to first and the ball is overthrew in to the outfield and he is standing on 1st is it the right or wrong call for the home ump to call him out saying he start to leave the batter box first before running to first?

It depends on the rules code. In high school, he has to reach the dugout area to be called out. In other codes, he is banged out as soon as he leaves the dirt circle.

ok well i looked it up in the rule book the ad gave me at the start of the year which is a high school book, i coach 6,7,8th grade team, but either way the batter didn't leave the dirt he took half step out of the batters boxs. so either way he was safe, thank you for you input, Originally Posted by dash_riprock:
