An erring was Barry Bonds trademark...other than all those juiced homeruns...

However, that doesn't make it okay for any kid who wants to play for me...I don't care if they want to wear women's panties, have a belly button ring or a ni**le ring for that matter...all under their uniform... as long as I don't have to see it I'm okay with it...

Something like, 'Don't see, don't get kicked off the field.'

I agree Coach Waltrip. Earrings are worn regularly in So. Fl. Just not on the field. Attitudes towards wearing earrings changes from area to area, town to town, region to region. I personally don't care as long as they are not on the field.

Remember Bull Durham. I guess lingerie can be helpful. I just don't want to see it on my ballplayer. That would be a whole different conversation. lol

I dunno, what if?

My opinion that the wearing of earrings by participants of a sport during a sporting event is inappropriate would not change.

The ability of the player would have nothing to do with it.

I'm not affected by the trend that seems to say that the better the player, the more we have to look the other way. That school of thought gave us today's NBA.

How do you feel about players wearing earrings? Are they ok?

Wearing them not that big deal. But then again, I don't have any hangups about that kind of stuff like some do. There's more important things to be concerned about than if a player wears an earring. My son has one but respected the game and the rules so he never wore it for practices and games. Since the jewelry is illegal in HS play and the player will be forced to remove them, there's no point in wearing jewelry on the field in the first place.

Coach May-

You've never noticed how cool those guys look with two large pieces of glass hanging off of each ear? Nothing looks much worse, in my opinion, than guys with earrings (or pretty much any other type of piercing). Maybe that's just me.

Part of the earring thing is cultural. You see it more on black athletes. Black kids are more likely to wear them than white kids. My son wouldn't think of piercing his ears. One of this best (black) friends wears one earring.

I feel that statement is a little culturally biased. I I dont think color has anything to do with it. I have seen plenty of white kids, wearing earrings as well. I do not think color has anything to do with it. I think it is more of the individual and their choice.
This reminds me of a game several years ago when Omar Vizquel complained that Arthur Rhodes' earrings were distracting him and the umpire told Rhodes to take them off. Rhodes got so mad that it almost started a brawl. Rhodes apparently threatened to throw at Vizquel and was thrown out of the game. I'll let you guys tell Arthur that earrings are for girls...

also remember the standards change from coach to coach......MY sons college coach forbid earrings, but allowed phiten/gold necklaces.....BUT He also had grooming standards......Hair was off the collar and you had to be clean shaven.........
I don't see the appeal of playing / practicing with jewelry. I agree with TR that a bad hop to where ever should be able to cure it once the find out it hurts a lot worse - if not then they deserve what they get.

My players will never wear jewlery once they step foot onto the field or have the uniform on. That is my area and my rules. If they don't like them then they can leave. Once they leave the field or are wearing their own clothes then I could care less what kind of jewelry they wear. As long as they are bringing negative attention to the team they can wear all the jewelry and clothing they want. But once they do something that makes the team look bad then we are going to have a discussion.
