I always preferred fastballs out over the plate to bunt, though it does depend a little bit on the situation and where you want the bunt to go.

If you're just looking for any type of bunt and don't care where it goes, except onto the ground, I would have to say here are my top three.

1. Straight fastball out over the plate, down in the zone
2. Curveball with a slow gradual break
3. Change up away

You are correct! Either pitch, if it's a belt to letter strike (Lefty's strike comment is relevant). The most difficult, IMO, fastballs below the knee (tend to be fouled into the dirt) and above the letters, especially in (popped up).

In my day, the first early square to sacrifice was met with a high-in, under the chin, heater. If he was man enough to square early again, then he likely got the high heater on the inner half. Next time up, if the situation allowed, he got plunked.

I sure miss that game of the 50's, 60's!

It depends! I assume this is a sacrifice bunt we are talking about. If so, the first strike you see a great bunt needs to be executed.

If it is a squeeze bunt, then it is a different situation.

Yes, the first strike needs to be executed. Which one is easier to execute? Fastball or curve?
