I went to East Coast when I was in highschool and I think I was the only guy there that didn't go pro. Mark Texiera hit homeruns from both sides of the plate against our team...neither has landed yet. It was a great event back then and still is from what I hear. I even got some offers from schools who only saw my name on the roster. Fun time.
Novice Dad:

The East Coast Professional Showcase is a relatively low visibility event in that it has no accompanying website. Put on by the participating major league teams, it requires an invitation from a pro scout.

Some of the showcase's six teams (which cover broad geographic areas) use tryouts to augment their selection process, while others do not. As you get to know scouts in your area, you should ask them about how players are recommeneded for your area's team.

Best of luck to your son!
How are players selected? This leads me to tell how my son was invited. It was during his junior year of high school (2001) and we were playing a regular season game at our high school field. A gentleman approached me, stuck out his hand and introduced himself as Ty Coslow but didn’t explain if he was a scout or a parent or what...He said he was putting a team together to play a few games later on in the summer and was wondering if my son would be interested in joining his team. I explained my son had already committed to a summer team and appreciate the invite but he wouldn't have the time. Out of curiosity I asked the name of his team and he replied, “The Rockies”. Having never seen this person before, I asked where his team was from and he replied; “Colorado”. Still not sure of the connection I asked if he was the coach and he said, “No I’m Ty Coslow, the area scout for the Colorado Rockies”....You know, the major league team”. He went on to mention the team would play in Wilmington, NC at the East Coast Pro, an event I was familiar with because of the HSBBW. We both had a chuckle and I immediately accepted the offer for my son. The East Coast Professional Showcase was a great experience for my son. Smile
