First want to say great job Coach Wright, Thompson and the rest of the WB Bruins... represented very well against a very tough Maury team with Cowgill on the mound.

In our game, Granby allowed our sloppy play to go unpunished as they made quite a few errors of their own.

Nonetheless, I'm very proud of Dean, as he was able to hold the Comets to no runs & 2 hits over 5 innings, striking out 8 on a day where he didn't have his best stuff.

Alley (1-2, 2 R, BB) & Dickason (3-4, 3 R) were there table-setters, and Cartwright (2-3, RBI) & Shockley (2-run 2B) hit the ball hard and produced some runs.

Menchville will have Chrismon (ECU-signee) on the mound Wednesday. He has a live arm (87-89) with a fairly sharp breaking ball and good control, similar to the Cotton kid that threw last night, just about 5 inches taller and about 50 lbs bigger...

They have a staff over there... we'll see what happens.

Congratulations to all the winners yesterday at regionals. Looks like menchville's pitching was pretty dominant against a good hitting team from First Colonial. Looked like Carter wasn't as sharp as usual, but made the pitches he had to make in a big game. That's what great pitcher's do. You are not goiny to have your best stuff everytime out. You have to be able to adjust and that's what Carter did. The cotton kid and along with Austin Chrismon and Matt Armstead, this is one talented group of pitcher's. That's your opinion who you think is better, but I would take anyone of them on my team. Good luck to Austin and his teammates tomorrow night against Indian River.
Cox 3, Western Branch 2

Cox scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. A lead off single by the number eight hitter (Mattes), a sacrifice bunt which was mishandled, an intentional walk to Chris Taylor and a single to right field through the infield by Kyle Profilet scored the winning run. No outs when the winning run scored.

Cox also scored in the first. A lead off walk to Chris Taylor followed by two stolen bases and a run scoring single. Centerfielder Jordan Kidd cut down a runner at home to prevent a second run.

Matt Batten hit a double down the right field line to give the Bruins their only lead, 2-1, but Cox added a second run shortly thereafter.

One other play of note was Chris Taylor's attempted steal of home during the middle of the game. Catcher James Fiorella tagged Taylor out for the third out of the inning. (I do not remember the inning).

Ryan Mattes pitched a complete game for Cox. Shane Johnsonbaugh started for the Bruins and pitched five strong innings. Matt Batten pitched the final two innings.

Congratulations to both teams, especially Cox who advances to the finals of the Eastern Region on Thursday at 6:00 pm.
