OK I looked over the brackets and here are my first round predictions. This is really risky since I have not even looked at some of the winterball scores, and it is early but here goes:

Alemany should prevail but Saugus has a chance to win. Saugus vs Alemany game will be key to group A.

Chaminade, Chastworth, and Crespi should win their brackets.

Moorpark should win their bracket, but Cleveland should not be taken lightly. Moorpark vs Cleveland game should decide winner.

Camarillo has a tough draw and has to play two very good teams to win their bracket. Harvard-Westlake or Ventura could easily come through group F.

Valencia should win, but Simi is always tough.

West Ranch should win but Quartz Hill is usually good also.
Out of group A I would say Saugus because Alemany has to play Palmdale and they have a 6'6" lefty that can stop anybody, Groub B Agoura, C Chatsworth, D The baseball factory Crespi,E Moorpark, F the other Baseball factory Harvard, G Valencia should win and H West Ranch - They have too many arms and should win the whole thing

I love the fact that the season is about to start and people are paying attention now.

IJD lots of consensus but some interesting choices.

Westlake? They have lost a lot over the past two years. I have not heard about any new kids coming up replacing some pretty good players lost.

Elco is always good. Not sure if they can take out Crespi. Could happen.

Calabasas...are you drinking so soon in the evening.

Way too early to predict a winner, will wait for second round ....at least.

Games start tonight!

IJaD Calabassas is going to find out REAL early how good they are as Giolito is supposed to throw. (he has hit 94 this season and it is early....)

No offense to Calabasas, but I would not be surprised if they move him back to the Camarillo game. On Sat they face a Sr laden Ventura team and they will see the number 2 who has hit 89 this winter and is not even in top shape either. If they are competitive against these teams and are 0-2 they should still be happy.

Good luck to all teams!

After seeing them IJD I will give you that Calabasas will be a competitive school, but will still end up about midpoint in the Maramonte IMO. They do a good job of manufacturing runs, and are a solid team for a small school. They certainly are not an upper tier team. This is a case where the new bats will really help a team like theirs, and I like their approach.

They lost to Harvard Westlake 0 – 1 with Giolitto on the hill, and beat Ventura 3 – 2 with a junk baller who kept Ventura off balance until the end of the game and hung on for the win. Ventura saw a bunch of 90MPH fastballs the night before that helped him out, but I give him a lot of credit for pitching a great game. Nice start to the season, congrats.

T.Cassidy gave up only 2 hits and out pitched HW's Stud....IMHO

I can't really comment about Cassidy since I have never seen him, but Giolitto is the Real deal with a capital R...

OK some surprises, I have heard IJD that the Crespi team is nothing like some of the teams in the past few years. Time will tell.

For the remaining teams I am going with:

Chatsworth. Could get ugly for Oaks.

Hart, but not sure if they are a typical Hart team.

Chaminade.

Valencia.

I wanna play (put me in coach)
probably Valencia champs over Chatsworth

Same guy who said it was going to be a long season for the 4-0 Crespi team?

Agree that Valencia has the edge.

They are solid, not like some of the teams that Crespi puts out, but solid. We'll compare notes in a month.

I've seen most/alot of the top pitchers north of LAX and I'll take Max Fried from Montclair Prep(jr) over any of them...Gilioti included!

Now, now I'mJustA(Cbas)Dad. Sounds like sour grapes to me. Maybe you mean you would have rather have been facing Max Fried instead of Gio? I don't think it would have made much of a difference, to be honest. They're both teriffic young pitchers but you can't compare apples and oranges: power right hander and a slick throwing lefty. Hell, I'll take them both. In fact, UCLA has!

Wow Aldo (Papa-gio)...one of the best things about baseball is your allowed to have an opinion...and after watching both pitch against my sons team...I'll take Fried...I'd take Koufax over Drysdale in a heart beat for that matter also, apples and oranges are you kidding! Your kid is good enough he doesn't need your biased defense here on a blog~!

I've seen each of them and I was impressed with different aspects of each of them. Fortunately I have no need to compare them. I don't see anything wrong with preferring one over another based on the style of pitcher one prefers though.

The key is that time will tell the answer and barring injury each of them is going to have a fair amount of time left in the game.

You are right. My apologies for my biased defense of Luc with my outlandish opinion that they are both terrific young pitcher. I was just crazy that day and over-reacted. Won't happen again.

But if you really want to compare them, here you go:

Luc is 6'6", Max is 6'3".
Luc weighs more than Max.
Max eats less than Luc.
Max lives in the Valley, Luc lives in Santa Monica.
Max wears braces, Luc doesn't.
Luc's feet are bigger than Max.
Luc wears a hat with HW on it while Max wears a hat with M on it.
Max's Dad is named Jonathan while Luc's Dad is named Rick.
Their Dad's are married to different women.

There's probably more but we'll stop here.

BTW, thanks for comparing my kid to HOFer Don Drysdale and Max to HOFer Sandy Koufax. I told Max's Dad about it. He was as thrilled with your opinion as I was. Much appreciated.
