I haven't kep up with the new models, but I can assure you that the Easton composite with the orange barrel is very hot. I've seen some balls hit incredible distances with it in college games last fall and this spring. I even saw a pitcher hit a ball onto the sixth deck of the parking garage behind left field at Sacramento State. It's about 360 feet to the garage, and then up about 80 feet above that! Some college coaches swear by (or at, depending on circumstance) that bat.
Lets all go back to wood. Seriously!! Most decent bats start out at $250 and go up from there. $250 is 5-6 decent ash or three maple sticks, possibly 4.

The whole reason wood was phased out was because of how cheap and durable alluminum was. Now with the high end two piece composites and super thin walls for the trampoline effect, these super expensive bats are hardly more durable than wood.

Maybe going to wood would also also make it easier to grade out prospects. With all the stupid money being tossed around on 1st or 2nd round draft picks that never make the transition to wood, it seem MLB would be better off subsidizing college and high school with some type of stipend to buy some wood.
MLB would probably save $$$$ down the road.
