Correct. Your answer can be found in the rule book under the definition of Fair ball.

Fair ball (condensed) A fair ball is a batted ball that is on or over fair territory when bounding to the outfield past first or third base.

The base is in fair territory......a ball passing over the base then would be a fair ball....
Reminds of one; a hot two hopper down the 3b line, clearly foul, but yes, it was close. Third base coach casually stolling by on his way to the dug out, stops and turns towards third and say's "hey was that fair or foul before or after it went over the bag?" I simply asked him; "hey what kind of truck was that anyway?" He say's "what truck?" I say's "you know, that pumpkin truck you thought must a just dropped me off?" As he stood there staring at me with that glazed look, I said thanks for stopping by coach and oh and by the way, nice try.
You would best be served by keeping those comments to yourself rather that attempting to be funny with a coach....

In higher baseball, you should not, no matter how tempting, to engage in a snappy comebacks with coaches. You need to remain as professional as possible........there was no need to answer that question from the coach...sometimes the best answer is no answer.....get back to your position and signal play..........
