I dont know if anyone else has been to an ECTB event, but I wanted to know how you all felt about their tournaments.

First of all, the fields are horrible. They are obviously not in this to develop or showcase baseball players, there is one driving force behind this organization.....CA$H!!!!

The "invite" the teams to a cookout/home run derby. Then have a phantom $10 charge...INCLUDING PLAYERS AND COACHES!!!!!

Then if you are lucky you get one can of soda or water for free. The home run derby was fun and all, but it was poorly run, and obviously was designed to amuse the tournament staff...not the players and fans.

Back to the playing fields: The stadium is okay, they are definately putting money into the complex. The other fields are ethier a cow pastor, of fields that have had a problem with identity theft: they are not fields, I am not sure what they are. you expect when coming to an "elite tournament" to play on nice fields...not an old parking lot.

I think the tournament director is trying to do the right thing, but his staff has the least baseball knowledge of any baseball program in the history of the game! They have no people skills, and dont understand that teams that are paying to play there are their customers and should be treeated with respect!

Just because you dont get to their "other tournaments" you dont get ranked, so literally the first 3 games are just "practice games" <-exact wording from a staff member

We just played in the ECTB 15U World Series. I couldn't agree more with you on the field conditions. They are horrible. Last year we played in a AAU Super Regional hosted by ECTB. The field we played on was designed to be a youth field so the infielders had to play in the grass. Thas was one of the better fields. The director sets up his seeding based on how many tournaments you play in not how you do in pool play. It is no surprize that one of the tournament directors "teams" (one that he has something to do with actually running the team) ended up as the number one seed because they play in an ECTB tournament every week. They are a good team but let's not penalize everyone else because we don't fork out $600 a weekend you their cause. I wonder if the AAU or USSSA people actually check out how these things are run before giving them the rights to host their tournament. Enough with my rant... you hit a sore spot.
devils10- i was in pennsylvania for the ectb tourney, what team were you there with?

as for the tournament itself, it was quite a disapointment. for me, i am 15 years old so most of the guys are 3 and 4 years older, so i think the experience made it that much more of an appealing weekend for me, but looking at it from a broader prospective, yes i would definately say it was a disappointment.

the format of the tournament was horrendous. they had 22 teams, and because our name (Westchester Wolfpack) was picked out of a hat last, we were always the away team. We ended up losing 3 of the 4 games we played in the bottom of the last. We heard the final was on TV and the games were to be played @ a minor league ballpark, just to find that it was a FORMER minor league ballpark and none of our games were played there. they were played 45 minutes from the hotel, @ an awful high school field somewhere next to a corn field and a cow pasture.

as for the home run derby, again, a moneymaker. we ended up having a good time because 2 of our teammates were in the finals, but it was overpriced (even for the players) and not a good environment (and the PA announcer- oh god)

ECTB turned out to be another money making disappointment. the NABF regionals in Delaware the weekend before were much nicer, the only complaint would be the terrible umpires there. but the fields were nicer, the tournament was set up better, it was just overall a nicer environment

where is the tourney? when i was 13 i played in a 16u tourney w/frozen ropes up in north branford, ct and it was a very pleasurable experience. i think the world series was made worse because we had 2 be up @ 6 am 3 times, so deff. stay positive, theyve been very successful im sure they cant be THAT bad
just remember that any exposure is good exposure, no matter how bad everything is, dont let it effect u or itll hurt. in the world series we went 0-4, and 3 of the games were lost in the bottom of the last because we allowed the seeding to get to our head. just block everything out and play baseball
