I have watched several games at this field over the last year and noticed that it has some very odd characteristics. From what I was told by someone that played in high school ballgames there many years ago was that the slope in left field was MUCH steeper and that the really tall fence in left was not there when he played. Can anybody provide any insight on the history behind the changes?

Nope. We go to neighboring Hayfield but we've played at Edison a lot. I've heard the really tall fence is a relatively new addition. I'm curious as to whether anyone knows the story...
Always fascinated by the history behind the fields in our area so hoping someone in the know happens upon this thread.
My son played at edison so I know why they put the fence up..Down the left field line the field had a hill going up towards the fence. The AD decided the hill was a liability as well as houses being behind the left field fence, so he decided to knock out the hill, and put up the fence..I thought the hill added character, but that's just my opinion...

Thank you, that makes sense. That fence seems like it is at least 20 feet high!
