Hello everyone,
I just learned a about a month ago that I'll be needing to get the infamous Tommy Jon surgery. I shot out the ligament in my right elbow, I think its because when i had tendonitis a couple years ago i changed my arm-slot, so it worn down really fast. I'm a junior this year, and the only game this highschool season my arm felt really good my velocity was 88-90 and i've topped out at 91 last fall. I've been hearing that as kids velocities have been going up, more and more kids have been getting the surgery, i heard in a show that some doctor somewhere used to do 5 high schoolers a year, and now does about 55. Well, i was wondering if any of you other guys out there are getting this done, or have and if you have any info on it let me know. I know its usually at least a year until your ready to get back on the mound but not full 100% until about 2 years. So tell me your stories if anyone out there has any...thanks guys!

well as a matter of fact, i have a story. The guys name is nick adenhart, labelled #1 high school prospect in high school baseball. He's been crusing around 94-95 all this year..the thing is he's been throwing in the 90s since maybe his sophmore year. well, 2 weeks before the regular season was over this year, he snapped his tendon, on the 4th pitch of the game. He was a top draft pick for teh majors but now he has to get teh 'tommy jon's" surgery and is going to attend Uni. North Carolina red shirting the first year. i never really liked the guy, but what a tragedy. Anyways, thought i'd just share that story with ya

Raptor,
I just saw your post. I was curious how things were going. My son had some discomfort in his right elbow when he threw his first game with his summer team. He had just finished his Junior year, was named 1st team all district, received an invitation to the Area Code Game tryouts and touched low 90s his last 3 outings. After 3 doctor visits and 6 weeks of PT, a MRI showed that he had a slight tear in his UCL. The doctor recommended getting a second opinion from Dr. Conway in Fort Worth which is still 3 weeks off. Let me know how things are going and best of luck.
slider, just an update on Nick Adenhart. After his surgery was performed by Dr. Andrews in Birmingham most scouts assumed that he'd join NC University this fall, continue his rehab and look to be drafted down the road. Instead, the California Angels surprised everyone by drafting Nick in maybe the 17th round and game him over $700K, not 17th round money. He signed and is skipping college.

joedaddy, I'm raptor's mom. Wanted to let you know that he had surgery on 7-2-04 by Dr. Fanton with SOAR group in Redwood City, CA. Upon exploration of this ligament, he determined that the ligament was in very good shape so he just reattached it. Dr. gave him 6 months and then back to pitching. Quite a bit brighter than the tj surgery rehab. He's at pt 3 times a week for several more weeks. School just started so he'll be busy with that. The other good news we got is that 4 colleges have been in touch and 2 have offered official visits. Good luck to you! pomom
