Hi, I'm trying to figure out how many years I have left or if I have red shirt left.

I graduated in 2008 and went to a D2 JUCO and walked on....I took 13 credits that first year (1 class was 075 so it counted a 4 credits). I practiced with the team but never signed that NJCAA form. Also I was hurt because of a torn labrum surgery I had my senior year of high school and never on the roster or received scholarship

My second year, full time student, we played half our games before I pitched in one and my coach offered me the chance to red shirt before he put me in. I decide to pitch in that game burning one of my eligibility years.

This year I have two innings and were pass our half way point on our schedule. So I burned another year of eligibility I think.

My question is, will I have two years left of eligibility, two years with a red shirt, or is it possible that I can still red shirt this year and have three years left.

Also if I choose to medically red shirt is that possible will out wasting a year of eligibility

p.s. been full time since 2008

If I understand this correctly, at the end of this school year you will have been in school for 3 calendar years and 6 full time semesters. Two season of eligibility have been used up.

In any NCAA or NAIA division, you have two seasons of competition left, because all associations allow a maximum of 4 seasons of competition.

The calendar and academic years you have left in which to complete the two seasons of comepetition vary. The basic rule in D1 is a player is allowed 5 calendar years, and then his eligibility is finished, even if he hasn't used all 4 seasons of competition. In the other divisions, a player is allowed 10 full time semesters (or 15 quarters).

Some players become injured or ill in two different seasons. If the player has sufficient medical documentation showing that both incidents were incapacitating, and happened early in both seasons, then the NCAA may allow a hardship waiver that permits a 6th year (or two semesters) in which to complete a fouth season of competition. The NAIA only allows hardship waivers for illness, but a player can be injured fairly late in a season, and still not be charged a season of eligibility.

However, you can't "choose" to medically redshirt. Only a college can request that, and there has to be good documentation from a doctor to show the severity of the injury. A torn labrum may qualify if you had an MRI and an written opinion from the time of the injury that states the injury is season ending. But it is only important if you were to suffer another incapacitating injury.

One issue you may not have considered is academic progress. Most players who have been at a JC for 3 years have to sit out a year because they don't meet all the requirements if they transfer to a D1 or D2 school. Usually transfers to D3 or NAIA will be OK.
Ok that does concern me about the the credit requirements...how many would i need. I have 61 now, need 3 credits to get a degree and will finish this semester with a total of 73 credits. Also say for some reason i dont like the school im going to and its d3 can i transfer to another d3 or d2 or will that kill my eligibility also. Also say i get hurt and need a medical red shirt, if i get that can i transfer and not lose a year if the medical red shirt was in the fall or something
