All,

I went to work out for a D2 school. I really liked the school and the coach is someone that takes his ball seriously. I loved the atmosphere, the coach, the players and the University. I didnt hear from him for a week but had sent him a thank you email about the workout. This is what he sent me back.

Hope all is well. We enjoyed having you and working you out. You did a good job and I believe you would be able to compete as a catcher. As you know, we have 2 FR this year. Lot of things can change in a year, but you have some tools that are in your favor, and you have some things you need to improve upon. I will call you earlier this week, thanks

A few questions

Do you think I have a chance at this school?

What should I ask him when he calls?

How should I guage his interest in me and how should I show my interest?

I really dont want to sound cocky but I think I could compete with both of his freshman catchers and learn a lot from his starter.

Thanks,
Nick

Nick - Rob gives good advice.

Yes. The coach doesn't have time to call people just to pull their chains.

Ask him all the questions you want to ask him. Notably, ask him if he can offer a scholarship. If he can't, ask him what it would take to get one. Moreover, ask him that if he has no immediate needs, if he is aware of other colleges looking for your talents and position.

I don't think you come across as cocky at all. A young man needs to believe in his own abilities. I don't see anything wrong letting the coach know that you think you could compete with the two freshman. Do it in a humble and respectful manner and the coach ought to respect you for that.
