I'm a 2019 grad and I've filled out a few questionnaires and will be attending a college camp with about 5 schools I'm interested in in attendance. Should I follow my questionnaires up with an email, and if so, what info should I include. And should I email the coaches at the camp before the camp, and if so what do I include. Also, when I email them, should I email the head coach or recruiting coordinator. Just want to make sure I'm doing everything right since I'm very new to this process.

DE: The search button at the top left should help you with recent replies on the topic of e-mailing coaches. It's good you completed some recruiting questionnaires to show interest in school on your end.

As a 2019, you are early in process, and coaches' focus will generally be on classes ahead of you. If you are going to an event and are interested in school, sure send coach an e-mail and state why you are interested in school, your class, position etc. (As a freshman, you aren't anywhere near having board scores or grades to present). Son would always send to RC if it was a school that never saw him or it was his initial contact. If he has been in touch with HC or RC, then he would cc: the other one. Good luck and by going early in process, you'll see what takes place. What position do you play?

IMO unless your one of the top 5 players in your state there is no need to attend camps this early in the process.  Right now most of the schools are focused on 2017s for the most part and are now starting to look at the 2018s.  Unless there is a LHP 2019 throwing in the mid 80s they are going to be ignored at the camps.  About the only reason to attend a camp is to get comfortable with the process or to get your "measurables".

Use the search function provided to read about college camps and showcases.  Many of them are meant to make money for the ACs who don't make a very large salary.  Unless you are specifically invited the odds of them paying attention to your son is fairly slim.

To follow up a little on this, my son at the same point in his process went to numerous showcases.  Most of these were free to us as it was done through an association we belonged to.  Each one had about 30 college guys there.  They had each class do their thing in order.  By the time the frosh were rotated in they were down to 4 or 5 college guys and the ones who remained barely paid attention.

The mere fact that you are already searching and wanting to find out how to hopefully one day ensure you get the opportunity to play college baseball says a lot about your passion for baseball and your young wisdom to know it can be a process. Like someone else mentioned it really is a bit early for you to be hoping that emailing coaches and attending college camps would make much of a difference. You have at minimum a couple of years where your emails and attendance will begin to catch college coaches or recruiters eyes to be honest. Would these camps be valuable for you to attend to improve your game, see how you stack up with other players your age and older, watch how coaches interact with players, etc....absolutely they would.

Finding a good, competitive travel team to make and play during the summer would be invaluable to you over most college camps...IMO.

Best of luck to you young man. Sounds like you have a good head on  your shoulders.

DEBaseball01,

I applaud your efforts to learn about these schools and the recruiting process now.  Anything you do is just gravy on top at this point as a 2019.  Sure, email the recruiting coach and include your grades, interests and goals.   In a few years, you'll probably be doing the same thing but you'll have a longer resume of accomplishments and a clearer picture of what you want to do in college and after college.  If this is something you feel strongly about then embrace it, and don't let anybody tell you that you are too young.

At the camp, seek to learn how it is run, the drills, and to get to know the coaches.  If they teach you something new then that is a bonus.  I recall a camp my son attended (as a hs school sophomore) where he hit it off with a college pitching coach that he would eventually compete against in his conference.  He remembered my son when they met again 3 years later.  My point is college baseball is a community and you'll run into the same people over and over.  Why not start meeting these people now?

Good luck!  As always, JMO.
