Thurm: that's all you would need for Emory? Wow, I was expecting a heck of a lot higher number. I applied ED to Wash U. In St. Louis with a 32 ACT and 3.8+ gpa but got deferred. As I mentioned in another thread about getting in to top academic schools, getting into d3 schools like Emory require more of a well-rounded application as opposed to a statistics threshold (atleast in my experience). Although an Emory education is world-renowned, you want to make sure you put your son in the best position to succeed academically. If your son is a stretch to get in, there's a pretty good chance that it's going to be a stretch for him to succeed at a high level for 4 years there.

As well for us, the Emory HC pretty much stated to us that he has little influence with admissions. That being said, the HC was extremely helpful in terms of vetting my son's academic stats and gave what he felt was a vote of confidence, based on his experience, regarding admissions. He was very forthcoming and responsive. My son never did apply though, he just had no interest in Atlanta.

What another poster said holds true, schools like Emory look at a lot of factors when they read an application (diversity, geographic make-up, essays and the ability to write, letters of recommendation, unique attributes and talents, etc.) beyond just raw GPA and standardized test scores.
