Son graduated in May from high school. He has decided not to pursue playing college ball even though he did have offers. He wants to concentrate on his education, majoring in engineering at University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He has received a full academic scholarship to ULL and also a few cash scholarships which will cover most of his book fees for the next four years. I am very, very proud of him. He has worked his butt off to get where he is. This summer he is working 12 hour days farming sugarcane fields. I could not be more proud. Good luck to all of your boys and girls, may their dreams come true. Of course, I will be checking in from time to time. I have learned quite a bit from this site, not only about baseball, but also about life. Thanks to everyone.

This is a super-wonderful story!

I have been an Engineer my whole career and it is the most rewarding of professions imho. Your son will learn the power to create and that is something that will be of value to him for his entire life. It is also a great career for spring-boarding into other areas if he so desires like management, entraprenuership (sp), and law, for example.

LA09 - Congrats on your son's journey. Your thoughts remind me of a thread BobbleheadDoll started. I would betcha that the lessons and values that your son has learned on that baseball field have and will serve him well on this road he has chosen for himself. Baseball will always be a huge part of his life story and the blessings that have come from it will serve him well. The absolute very best to him and may he get off to a great start in the fall!!
Thanks everyone, we were quite surprised when he decided not to play ball, but it is his decision. He already misses it. Any chance he gets he is helping out with spring football and also helped with the high school baseball clinic. Football and baseball have been a major part of his life and ours. Athletics also played a big part in molding him into the young man he is today. Thanks again.
