era under 4.00 minimum 100 career wins

There are only 11 current starting MLB pitchers on the career leaders list with an era of under 4.00 and only one with an era under 3.00. What is the significance of this? What is this attributed to? Better hitting now, more power hitters, more home runs, the ball, drop in pitching skills?

Ted Williams' stats are even more amazing than most people would think. What many people don't realize is that the mound was lowered about a half of a foot which makes the ball a lot easier to hit considering that it now travels more parallel to the ground than at a downward angle.

Baseball has been trying to make the game more exciting as far back as the 50's at the cost of pitchers.

The lower mound, the ever shrinking strike zone, juiced up baseballs and batters, artifcial turf and high tech bat production.

And we still haven't had another .400 hitter since Ted Williams.

I would think the number of juicing pitchers probably cancels out the juicing batters. No arguments with your other points though

It is a shame.

All these juiced up geriatric five inning pitchers are only serving to highlight the weakness of middle relief or set-up pitchers.

We need more full game or at least a hundred pitches type pitchers.

I guess soon we'll have three strarters going three innings each per game.

There is a great article on the web about "Rube" Waddell and his crazy life. The number of pitches and innings those guys used to throw is mind boggling. There are too few pitchers and they make too much money to do that these days.
