I think the conference is respectable, but no way a powerhouse. While the conference itself is relatively talented this season, I dont think that this is usually the case. Plus, quite a few of these schools do take a relatively easy schedule by playing cps schools or smaller baseball programs.

Essentially, if a team from the ESCC was playing someone from the WSC, Dupage Valley, MSL or CSL, I think that the public schools would prevail more often than not.
Ballyall

The ESCC took 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the state tournament year before last. So I think they might have been respectable in 2004 too.

JCA's non-conference schedule includes: JT, DeLasalle, St Rita, Minooka, Naperville Central. Naperville North, Providence, Andrew, Divine Child (MI state champs 5a), Homewood Flossmor, Lockport, LW Central, Plainfield South and Lincolnway East. If you think this is a relatively easy schedule you really don't know what you are talking about.

Benet plays most of the DVC schools and I really don't know of too many games the ESCC plays with cps schools. The Catholic league plays way more games with cps than the ESCC.

Carmel, Notre Dame, Benet and JCA are all ranked teams. In fact Benet won the Schaumburg tournament and JCA won the WJOL tournament. And yes there were public schools entered in those events. I would put the ESCC up against any conference in the area. The Sun Times stated that the conference was something like 60-19 versus non-conference opponents.

While I respect you opinion you might want to back it up with some facts next time.
An allstar team from the ESCC would be the best in state? Who are you kidding? The West Suburban Conference would destroy your team hands down. Even when you sent 3 teams to the final four, your all star team of juniors was blasted by the WSC. The talent level from the western suburbs is superior to your pool. Although we can't take students from out of our district like you can, we have much better talent
norfrank-- you are absolutely correct. The WSC would destroy an ESCC team. That is true not only now but for the past quarter century as well.

To all of you that believe the ESCC is some powerhouse now, I want to let you in on a little secret: While a few of your teams are decent and the conference is enjoying the benefit of an overall weak non-conference schedule, the fact remains that NO OTHER TEAMS FEAR YOU!!!

Sure you may win a few games here and there, but you fellows are miles away from the respect and accomplishments that the WSC, MSL and CSL currently possess.
I am the right fielder for Elk Grove High School part of the MSL and we went downstate last summer and obviously JCA is for real and there is no question that they are good and so is the ESCC...but while down there there was no big difference as far as pitching goes with JCA compared to any Mid-Suburban league team like Prospect who I think might have some of the best pitching in the state....but overall yes ESCC is the best conference in Illinois but considering last year 2/8 team at state last year were MSL teams then I think our conference does deserve some respect as well as Elk grove who are 12-1 right now and going for 3 wins tomorrow in the Niles North Tournament
styles... ballyall is from Maine South meaning he doesn't particularly enjoy anyone from ND. In my opinion this topic is pretty pointless anyways because no one is going to say anything objectively in it. Everyone is going to support their own conference. I can only speak from experience by saying that I wouldn't call ND's non-conference schedule a cake walk. Prospect, Hersey, GBN, NT (twice), Barrington, MS, Loyola and Prospect are consistently solid programs. By doing a little research you'll find JCA (styles could probably speak more about this) also schedules from pretty difficult non-conference games: St. Rita, Minooka, Naperville N, Naperville C, Lockport and Andrew are also good programs and none are the "chicago public league schools" that you speak of. We all know that you are very proud that Maine South beat ND; it's baseball, anyone can beat anyone else on any given day.

Key to the ESCC and teams like JCA is consistency. It seems like every year they take regionals, and every year they expect to get to the elite 8. Happenings like this leads to experience. Tony Testin, Joe Benson, and Tom Zurliene who are currently the captains of JCA's team, all sat on the JCA bench when myself and 9 other seniors watched the state championship slip through our fingers against another ESCC team known as Notre Dame. I watched our '02 team with Chris Gruber, Jake Jaworski and Ryan Lincoln lose in the sectional championship. It all comes down to how prepared your program is and how well your coach can adjust to talent level. No doubt ESCC is on top right now, but don't get me wrong, things could change in a second, especially in this sport. Don't be surprised if another conference starts to dominate next year or in ten years. Each team and each conference has it's time. It just happens to be the ESCC's turn. My opinion...
