What % or weight to professional talent evaluators place on skill testing versus game performance? Hypothetical; Tom a rising senior shows as an outfielder. Tom is 6' 195lbs well built& very strong lower half. Tom has good grades and test scores. Tom runs a 7.2 60, tests 88 mph in throws from outfield with excellent on line accuracy. Tom has a very good mechanical swing and performs adaquately in batting practice skill testing. During the game portion of the showcase Tom goes 0 for 3 with two agressive K's ( Vlad Guierro type agressiveness) and makes a poor jump on a catchable fly ball and it drops. Thus, the question; Is projectable talent more heavily weighted to the quantifiable skills testing or the games played in the second half of the showcase? Final note. Unknown to the showcase folks is Tom has very little playing time under his belt as he did not play much summer or fall baseball. He is just lately beginning to blossom.
