What is considered to be a good exit velo (front soft toss) for an 8th grader, Fresh and Sophomore? I have seen the chart but I was looking for more first hand experience as to what would be considered below average, average, above average.

You may want to look up Perfect Game showcase results. EV is done off a tee, not front toss, but it will give you an idea. For example:
https://www.perfectgame.org/ev...ults.aspx?event=7608
That particular one is a showcase from last Spring with mostly 8th graders. But there is lots of data on the PG site and they'll even give you percentiles. E.g., for the class of 2022, an EV of 82 this year is in the 88th percentile.
I would recommend specific training for the test the hitter will take. For example, a kid's game bat and swing may not be the ones that produces the best tee exit velo.
My son who is a 2021 had a 93 mph from a soft toss last season. Last week he got to 89 off the tee.

So - where do these kids fall - in terms of these are the better kids, or are these kids that just went out and did a showcase? Where did you find the percentile?

That's a good idea as well.

A cat 7...not one of the more expensive bats, but a solid one piece alloy bat.
