I am not clear on a couple of things and was hoping that someone could explain a few things.

1. If Ivy's do not give athletic money, do they give academic money? If so, they can only give up to 25% or 33%. If they give academic money than the time line of letter of intent doesn't really matter because that is for athletic money only,is this correct?

2. What about D3 schools, letter of intent doesn't really matter as they cannot give athletic money,is this correct?

3. If there is no athletic money for either of these programs, is there a time line that they follow?

Ivy league schools typically don't participate in the NLI program. The service Academies also don't participate. Neither do D3's participate in the NLI program.

All schools (including Ivy's & D3) can give academic 'ships. The amount is not limited to any percentage. For D1, D2 and NAIA schools, the student must meet certain academic criteria in order for the academic aid not to count against the athletic aid.

For instance, in D1 academic 'ships don't count as athletic aid if top 10 % of class or a core-course GPA of at least 3.5 or 1200 SAT. In D2 academic 'ships don't count as athletic if - top 20 % of class or a core-course GPA of at least 3.5 or min. 1140 SAT. In NAIA, 1200 SAT, 3.75 GPA or top 10% gets an academic exemption on 'ships (with a 3.6 to remain exempted). NOTE: These SAT requirements are verbal plus math (e.g., the "old" scores).

D3's cannot, of course, give athletic 'ships. I would think there are some restrictions on who can qualify for academic aid at the D3's. I have not researched that in detail.

Hope this helps.
