Aw come on, how in the hell is this Bud fault? Blame the grandstanding Politicians or the buyers for not getting all their ducks in a row.
First of all, it is at least in part Selig's fault. He turned the decision he wanted to make on Day 1 into a dog and pony show, robbing the locals of any goodwill they would/should have had with MLB.

The guy has been a train wreck of a commissioner, made even worse with the changes in his powers, and the good folks on these boards can probably come up with plenty of well-qualified people that would do a better job.

So let's bring the ballclub to Norfolk, make my son the first local draft pick, overpay him ridiculously and set me up with a luxury box along the first-base line.

And if you can't do that much, at least call them the Expatriots when they leave D.C.
"The real Virgina, everthing west of Northern Virginia" I agree totally. That would have to be WVa! Let's Go Mountaineers!

wvmter... You are my new hero!!!!! Now send me a PM and explain your connection to the "eers!!

Hokie - What else should I expect from a country lawyer who is proud to wear a turkey and wears purple everything??
If the truth be known, much (but not all) of West Virginia, which if ironed out flat would be as big as South America, has more in common with the Virginia beyond the beltway and 'burbs, than does northern Virginia, but the growth is rolling west into the Shenandoah Valley and into the West Virginia panhandle. Geesh, our county is discussing a 3 million dollar "Arts Center". I'd prefer a minor league baseball park....
Here's a far fetched idea. The NATIONAL TRAVELERS.

This team plays all their homestands in places that MLB does not have a frachise but has a minimal 20000+ stadium. The team gets the gate, and part of the concessions. The city gets some concessions and the rest of the perks that come when the show hits town. This team would be "Americas team". Players would get the royal treatment at each "home" stop and as a part of the hardship of not having a home they get a share of the merchandizing profit whos team would be the favorite of all those in this country who do not have a "home team".

Team owners do not need to have stadium overhead, staffing, and the other headaches of home ownership. They could call Charlotte, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Nashville, Okla City, Indy, Louisville, and others home. Internet radio and video carries all the games under an exclusive liciencing agreement.

Players and coaches would be icons to the fans that could only dream of having a home team. Travel which inclues a top of the line jet with all the life style accomadations being first class. The team sponsors times when Families can get together for home series.

Yes there are probably more down sides than up, but there is only 1 world series winner, and my bet is that when all is said and done the National Travelers are making a big profit.
