In searching schools I stumbled across Fairfields' program and noticed there's going to be a coaching change after this season.
Does this impact recruiting? Since there are often unplanned coaching changes how does this affect the kids playing time and scholies?
As I understand NCAA rules, a kid MUST sit out a year if they transfer schools, what good reason is there to waive this rule if there are coaching changes?

Fairfield's situation has been known about in the college baseball world for a bit of time now. It is pretty widely known that Coach Slosar would retire this year after 26 years as a head coach. Also they named Bill Currier as the new head coach (current associate head coach) for the 2012 season, so recruiting can go on normally.

A worse situation is what happened at the University of Maryland and is being talked about in the Maryland Forum:

Bringing 23 new kids in and cleaning out about half the remaining roster seems just plain unfair to the student athletes that have committed to your program. I understand the new coach wanting to put "his" stamp on the team right away, although not allowing the players let go the right to transfer, without having to sit out a year, is just not right. This is not a situation that is exclusive to U of MD, and occurs at a major program at least once a year or so...

IMHO the NCAA needs to make exceptions for players dropped when a new coach arrives and cleans out the program. It could certainly be considered on a case by case basis.
