I have seen it work particularily with a runner at 1B who is running on first movement instead of watching for pitcher to begin their normal pitching move.

Why do you wish it was banned? It would put the defense at a disadvantage.

Because it puts too much gray area into play for the Umpires. I don't see how it would put the Defense at a disadvantage. The Pitcher can still attempt to pick-off the runner at third or first. IMO, it should be no different than a normal pick-off to first base. I think the current rule gives an advantage to the defense because the runner can't go on first movement by a RHPs front foot.

I am asking about High School rules by the way. Let me ask you this, can a LHP in the same situation fake a throw to first and then turn to look at third?

IMO, the Pitcher should have to throw to third if he moves to third and throw to first if he moves to first if he does it with his foot in contact with the rubber.

Fed allows you to stay in contact on the move to first but you have to throw. If he doesn't throw while in contact it is a balk.

In practice and as taught in school, under OBR the move alone qualifies as breaking with the rubber.

I know of no umpires who have an issue with the move...just runners who get picked and their coaches.

Despite the myth perpetuated by coaches, running on the first move of the front foot is not always a safe thing to do. RH pitchers can, by rule, step and throw to first without disengaging.

Only if he disengages first. Throws to first, for good reason, under all codes, is treated differently than the other bases.

Your opinion is in direct disagreement with the rules and tradition of baseball...kind of like disagreeing with 3 strikes for an out when it takes 4 balls for a walk.

Thanks! Which one is High School rules?

Fed is the high school rule. Fed stands for Federation. The full name is National High School Federation.
