Guys, this came up during a 14u tournament this weekend.  Pitcher fakes to 3rd and throws to 1st.  Home plate ump calls a balk.  Both he and the 3rd base coach (from opponent) say it's an illegal move that was changed this year.  I agree, it was made illegal at the MLB level.  Their initial argument was that it's also illegal in college and HS, which I disagreed with.  When home plate ump heard me say that, he said we're playing by MLB rules.  Fine, whatever...  almost got tossed for pointing out his mistake.  But more importantly at this point...  I am correct, aren't I?

The move is still legal in NCAA and FED.  I don't know which rules applied for your 14u tournament.

That is a great question.  I asked prior to the tourny, but was never given an answer.  Ultimately the home plate ump fell on the "we're playing by MLB rules", which I had never seen in a 14u tournament.  Especially one that allows EH's.
