Senior Day for the Falcons fittingly was all about the seniors as all saw action and led the team to a final regular season win over Kempsville. Drew Wilkinson had a pair of hits. Chance Valentine had a key triple and a nice running catch in deep LF. Matt Ittner had a hit and made some really nice defensive stops at 3b. Mike and Matt Chegin also contributed hits, but the story of the day was senior LHP, Adam Owen getting what I believe was his first career win by pitching 5 innings of no hit ball. I’d have been tempted to let him try and finish the deal, but given the lack of innings pitched this year and the relatively high pitch count, the coaches thought better of it and let sophs, Tyler Knight and Brian Sagedy finish it out.

It was the leadership of the 7 seniors: Drew Wikinson, Matt Ittner, Chance Valentine, Mike Chegin, Matt Chegin, Chris Chegin, and Adam Owen that helped turn around that disastrous 0-7 start and put together a remarkable 12-1 run and a 3rd place finish in the Beach District. These guys will be missed next year, but the season is not over yet. Hopefully they’ll be able to carry that momentum into the tourney and finish up their senior years with a flourish.
