Farragut had a thriller tonight in the Jacket Classic held at Middlesboro, KY. The Admirals faced a very good Louisville Male team. Collegiate Baseball has had Male ranked #14 and Farragut #11.

It was a pitcher's duel between Male's Scott Green and Farragut's Kyle Waldrop. Farragut wins in 8 innings 1-0. The only extra base hit of the game was Scott Dean's game winning homerun in the top of the 8th. A shot to center field! Dean also gunned out runners on attempted steals of second in the 2nd and 4th innings. A great game by Scott! Green struck out 8 Farragut batters, 0 walks and 3 hit batters on 120 pitches. Waldrop struck out 11, 0 walks with 2 hit batters, throwing 77 pitches.

Farragut had 11 hits and stranded 12 baserunners. Waldrop gave up singles in the 1st 2 innings and then no other hits until a single in the 7th. Male finished with the 3 hits and only had one runner reach second, that in the first inning.

Great test for the Admirals. A game like this will only help them down the road.

I was reading some on Scott Green (Kentucky signee), the pitcher that threw against Farragut, he is widely considered the leading candidate for Mr. Baseball in the state of Kentucky in 2004 and Collegiate Baseball magazine ranks him as the No. 1 prospect in Kentucky. Team One Baseball website ranks Green as the No. 105 prospect in the nation. He was named all-state in Kentucky following his junior season in which he led his team to the state championship game, allowing just one earned run in the post-season.

“Scott Green, in our estimation, is the best prospect in the state of Kentucky. He’s 6-7, very athletic for his size and a very good student. We’re very pleased to welcome him to our program. He has a chance to be an immediate impact player,” Cohen said.

Since Middlesboro's baseball field is 15 minutes from home, I would've liked to watch the Farragut-Male game, but another baseball game prevented me from doing so. I did, however, make it to the Farragut-Middlesboro game. Certainly not to take anything away from Farragut, as they handled Middlesboro easily, but this is probably the weakest team Middlesboro has had in the last 5 years (IMO). Didn't get to watch Waldrop pitch, but saw Delmonico throw and Eldridge hit a "you knew as soon as he hit it" home run. Congrats to Farragut for winning the tourney and Waldrop for individual honors.
For basketball fans that are as old as dirt (like me), Louisville Male has produced some decent roundball players, Darrell Griffith being the first that comes to mind.
