On his second at bat this week at PG Jr. Nationals, JP took an 88 mph fastball to the ulnar styloid process -- the knotty bone on the outside of wrist (pic below). On video, it actually sounds like a foul ball off his wood bat. Ugh. It was a direct hit, and it kept him out of the remaining action once it started swelling about five minutes later.
All of you know that the next eight weeks matter to these boys -- so you'll appreciate how relieved we were to learn today, once he was home and had it x-rayed (the PG trainer assured him and his mom it wasn't broken in half) that it's not fractured. He'll be out a week or so, but it's not "season" ending.
All that to ask: What is the best wrist guard out there? What do Major Leaguers use? JP doesn't wear batting gloves.
