Ichiro is fast, but not the fastest. Posednik steals the most bases so you could say he is fastest, but all the scouts say that Joey Gathright is the fastest.
there are plenty of fast players in this league coco crisp, ichiro, rafael furcal, jimmy rollins, scott podsednik but i think carl crawford and joey gathright of the d rays are the fastest
I saw a few weeks ago on ESPN tht Rocker was playing on some AA team and i think it was a northeast team but i might be wrong. Did any one else see that section they did on him. I bet people are still throwing stuff at him. LOL I do want to see him try and make a return to the bigs its good for the game.
John Rocker pitched for two months this season with the Long Island Ducks. He has since decided his recovery from rotator surgery has not progressed far enough to allow him to continue pitching..........he has left the team.
Ichiro has the fastest home to first time in the ML but he is not the fastest. The reason he has the fastest time is because of his unorthodox swing. As for the fastet in the bigs, it is a tossup between Nook Logan of the Tigers, or Gathright of the Devil Dogs. They can fly! Podsednick is **** fast too, but his SB% is not that great. Pierre also has some wheels on him to.
I think during the all-star break they should add a 60 yard dash run competetion. Sorta like homerun derby.
As for Rocker, he was playing for the LI ducks, the Ducks are an independent league team. My hitting instructor played for them far the past couple of years and he is now the infield coach. He didn't have the best things to say about him to say the least.
He lead the league in infield hits (70) and bunt base hits (30)
I can't recall of the top of my head is times, but if you listen to a 'Stros game the commentators will more then likely mention his home to first time
a few years ago Christian Guzman hit and inside the park homer and it took him like 9 seconds from home to home and he also fell while rounding first base
Joey Gaithwright is the fastest player in the major leagues... when he's in the major leagues, he doesnt exactly have major league calibur skills to back up his speed
his Devil Ray teammate Carl Crawford was said to be the fastest in the league before his outfield counterpart joined the team 2 years ago!
stolen bases and infield hits aren't always purely off speed. On SB's, the jump and the catcher's pop time and throw are deffinatly more important than speed. On infield hits, the hit has to be a slow roller probably down the third baseline.
Don't get me wrong, Speed is HUGE in baseball, but it isn't the main factors into SB's and infield hits.
Not to get picky Christopher_91, but I dug out my half way decent math skills, and if I figured correctly, around the bases (120 yards) in 9 seconds would be like running the 100 meters in 8.2 seconds. The world record for the 100 meters I believe is 9.77 seconds.
Let's say he ran the bases in 11 seconds. That would compare to 10.02 seconds in the 100 meters. Almost the world record, while running a circle instead of straight, and falling down at first base.
Sounds like some announcers maybe got carried away a little bit that day. That being said, he is fast, just not faster than a speeding bullet.
well im 14 now and it was bout 3 years ago so that means i probably counted on my fingers and didnt have a watch to go by so maybe it was a lil slower but if u fall going over 1st and can still make it home thats fast
Wow, I'm shocked no one even mentioned Corey Patterson on the Orioles!!! Leading the league in steals. Whenever he gets on firstbase you know he's stealing. The yankees even did a pitchout and Patterson was still safe!!!
Jose Reyes, the leading stolen base leader in the first half, but I must say I think Chone Figgins can beat Jose Reyes in a foot race anyday. So I actually think my man Figgy is the fastest player in the Major league.
ESPN timed Gathright, Reyes, Crawford, and someone else that I can't remember from first to third. Reyes was slightly ahead of Crawford and both were running hard the whole way. Gathright was slightly behind Crawford, but he started jogging at the end because it wasn't close. It appeared that Gathright was the fastest. I haven't been able to see him much as I'm a Sox fan and he's no longer on the Devil Rays, but I see plenty of Crawford and he really does fly. It's hard to imagine someone faster than him, but both Reyes and Gathright are.
Seeing Gathwright almost every night, there's no question who's the fastest. In his first game with the Royals, he almost beat out a grounder to the 1st baseman.
Gathwright may be the fastest, but if you need a guy to steal a base I'd take Crawford any day. He may be slightly slower, but he's a way better baserunner. Podsednik is fast, but he's not as fast as Crawford or Gathwright. He has a lot of steals, but they come from smart baserunning. He also gets thrown out a lot. As a Red Sox fan I don't get a chance to see Reyes play, but he can fly too.
