Same game at a tournament. One call for us and one call against us.

First call; the ball literally bounces before the plate and rings up the batter for strike 3.

Second call; batter has a check swing. Can go either way, probably not a swing but he says batter went and calls batter out. Coach complains; he goes to his partner and they change the call to ball and the batter is awarded 1st base b/c that was ball four.

That is absolutely against the rules. Once it's called a strike, it can not be appealled.
pitiful...

both calls ...

first one,

No defense on that one...maybe he blinked or flinched or the catcher rose up and blocked his view....who knows....but in any case...thats called a "gross miss"...and is indefensible......

second one,

Like MST says....only a call of ball can be appealed....this was not allowable by rule......no defense on this....and to be honest one of the baseball 101 rules that every umpire should know....

Like I said, felt bad for the guy. Everyone has a bad day but most of us don't have someone screaming at them when they do.

It's a lot more than a bad day. It's a bad background in the most elementary aspects of umpiring. Hence, he doesn't even know he had a bad day. He thinks he got them right.

What level was this tournament?
