e-mail the coach and pending on your high school year see if they have camps.Be careful though I think they have a JV team and that may put pressure on your potential playing time pending on your recognized playing ability. You could ask your present coach to contact the listed coach and certainly,if you are close enough go catch a weekend game.
It's a solid D3 program. It's in a very rural area. A friend's son left after a semester because "It's thirty miles east of nowhere." He grew up in a major metro area.
Good program, really nice facilities, courtesy of some former players that made it big, including Mr. Wagner. The school has built a few new buildings lately. Ferrum plays in the USA South Conference, a very competitive place, last year listed in Massey Ratings as the #1 Baseball conference in D III.
As stated, Ferrum College is in a VERY rural area. The kids there have to find/create their own entertainment (not always a good thing) and the baseball players tend to hang around each other away from the baseball field (as with most baseball teams I would imagine). The USA South seems to have it's fair share of former 1st team All District/All Region baseball players, and Ferrum has at least half a dozen that I know fall into that category. Fairly easy to get into, academic $ is available if you have the grades. The classes are small enough that professors know your name. If your question was how does a D3 notice your son, I believe Ferrum College will scout in state showcase tournaments.
I hope this doesn't come across as an advertisement, but I can almost guarantee you that Ferrum will be in attendance at the Best in Virginia showcase held in July at Hampden-Sydney College. This is a great place to be seen by many D3 schools in Virginia, and it's a nice easy drive up from Chapel Hill (about 2 hours or a little more depending on how heavy your fit may be).
Thank E Heroes - My son is at BIV right now. Just got a text, he has had a few coaches talk to him already. Other than the weather 106 heat index today, he is having a great time at the Camp. Thank you again.
