OK... I think this may be a good topic for some discussion.

I coach at a struggling program with a limited budget and a lack of community involvement. I'm entering my third year and I'm working my *** off trying to improve every aspect of the program.

One area I would like to improve is the field we play on. Last season I painted a nice wooden "old school" score board with the numbers hanging on hooks. My custodial/maintaince staff does it's best they can with a limited budget.

Any ideas or suggestions on inexpensive/free ways to "dress up" or improve the field?

A flag pole (if you don't have one)

A lineup board... you could use a chalk board or a white board and have someone update the lineup. Hang it on the fence or near dugout where fans walk up to the park; they can see "who's playing out at second" You can also post league games scores from the previous week; leading hitters, etc.

Some signage on your fences or dugouts can look good.

Music in between innings or walk-up music if you want to go there.
