For some reason I had zero interest in this game. Then they started showing the videos of Costner returning and it brought back memories of watching the movie as a kid.
Lance Lynn, sons former teammate with Cardinals is starting for the Sox!
One of my son's former teammates will be in the field for the Sox. I plan to watch at least some of it.
I did not expect to be this moved but that opening was, as the children say, lit.

Andrew Vaughan is from Santa Rosa. His father played at SSU.
Andrew played at U of California Berkeley.

The opening was great. Then I turned it off. It was just a baseball game between the White Sox and Yankees.
I personally thought it lived up to the hype. Cute touch that the commentators were all dressed old school (much better than when they all dressed up as Star Wars characters on May 4th).

Foxson's college roommate and baseball teammate was from Dyersville, IA.
I enjoyed it for sentimental reasons, so did many others....a successful plan on MLB's part. It will quickly be forgotten when the strike/work stoppage happens next year.

I thought it was great, nothing better than a walk off in baseball.
Thanks for being so positive.
Haha, you're right. It was great game. Gotta live in the present, NYC, for tomorrow we may will all be gone.
My 2021 left for college a week and half ago. Man what I wouldn't do go play catch with him right now. I haven't done so in probably 2-3 years and I'm kicking myself now that I didn't make it a priority before he left. Calling all parents with a ball player still at home - go play catch with your kid. If I were to watch FOD right now, I'd likely end up curled up on the floor sobbing when Ray and his dad play catch. Brutal.
Good reminder @DanJ! Every time I see my son and husband leave with a bucket of balls to go hit on a field somewhere (or husband and daughters with a basketball to go shoot) it makes me smile. Sometimes they even let me tag along to get the ones over the fence.
Good luck to your son.
We live about three hours from Dyersville. Ironically, the only member of the family who hasn't been to FOD is my son, the baseball player.

Now that's amusing!
Reds and Cubs next year.....may have to talk the kid into making a trip out there
My wife says they should remove the fences and let them try to catch the ball in the cornfields :-) - would certainly make things interesting!
John;
it would not work. Because of the heavy rain the corn needed to have metal posts placed in the corn fields to show the stalks standing tall for the TV audience.

i managed to play catch with both of my boys late winter before the season of their SR year in HS. I was totally aware that it might be the last time with each of them, to date it was. That was one thing I did manage to do right!!
My son is a junior now. Seeing these posts really hits you that there isn't a ton of time left to enjoy these moments. I play catch with my son probably 3 or 4 times a week now. I catch his bullpens when he has time to throw them (lots of bumps, bruises, and I'm pretty sure a broken bone or two in my feet). When we are out of town for a tournament we always seem to end up at an open park to play some catch. I hope these days never end, but I know they will.
