Interesting idea. I don't have any great ideas but here are a few wobbly ones...

I see you are in Lawrence, perhaps you could find a local celebrity from the Univeristy of Kansas to sing the national anthem? Any American Idol participants in the area?

Maybe run an opening day fundraiser where the kids wear throw-back uniforms for the event.

Maybe have a bunch of people with video cameras and make a composite event CD from the various videos.

I think Mike Hargrove was coaching a summer team in Kansas - maybe you could get someone like him or another local baseball celebrity to throw out the first pitch.

Maybe an opening day sign could be created and if a homerun is hit over the sign, all the fans are treated to a free hot dog.

I know fireworks are expensive, maybe you could get some students to launch rockets from their science program in the outfield Big Grin

I am hoping my dumb ideas will spawn more creative ones Red Face Big Grin
A fundraiser that we had some years ago still brings back fond memories.

We had an enormous screen hung on the backstop and then showed the movie Field of Dreams while people laid on the infield, ran around in the outfield and generally celebrated being on a baseball field.

Perhaps you could do something like this to celebrate your own field of dreams.

Could always blow up a big pile of record albums in the outfield...that always seems to get people going!

Seriously, maybe a free concert at the end of the game...give away popcorn or hotdogs to the first 100 people...get someone to sponsor those little promotional bat giveaways "Opening Day"...let the little kids (8 and under) go out and stand next to their "favorite" player during the national anthem...have a local league march around the field or a couple of 8 and under teams play a game in the outfield...perhaps have a pre-game homerun derby...just throwing some stuff out...good luck with it and let us know what you do!

Celebrities = any KU basketball player. Folks, in Kansas only 8% of the people can name the governor but 88% can tell you the third guy off the bench for the Jayhawks (I'm in the minority on both of those)

If you could get a couple of Jayhawks to have a hitting contest people would go for that.

One of the greatest promotions I ever saw was a "Diamond Dig." I was at a minor league game in Las Vegas. They had buried a diamond in the infield dirt and gave all the ladies that wanted to play a spoon... they give them 5 minutes to find it... those women were going crazy!!! Nobody found it (kind of like a hole in one for golf I guess where you can win a car).... anyway, everyone had a good time
