Batter hits long ball over rf head no fence. When rounding 1b he is bumped by 1st baseman clearly impeding runner almost knocking him down. He ends up stopping at 3b when cutoff man 2b receives the ball 40 feet from the outfield. The batter is very fast and easily would have had inside the park HR if no contact. Umpires do not award home. Should runner have tried for home and if he was thrown out would he have been considered safe? after being impeded should runner continuing running to all bases?

Where the runner may have ended had he not been obstructed is a judgement call. If continuing to home, and the umpire judged the obstruction to cost the runner 3 steps... and he is thrown out by 10, then the out can stand. Since the ump did not award home, it is unlikely he deemed the obstruction prevented the inside the park hr. An obstruction does not give the runner a free pass to continue around the bases until tagged out.
You guys in Blue are good!! Thanks
It is what is known as Type B obstruction. It simply means that there was no play on the runner when was obstructed. With type B the umpires award whatever they feel nullifies the obstruction.
