I'll give you a real basic answer.
1st: the pitcher, that's the easy one. He needs to get behind home plate. Several feet (like 20 at least) behind home at an angle the throw is coming in from.
2nd and Short are going to be aligning themselves to serve as cutoff men to throw the ball home (or possibly to third, or even second with the first baseman trailing the runner) How deep into the outfield they go depend on how far the ball goes and the armstrength of the fielder who is throwing the ball in.
The double-cut is something that can be practiced and pretty easily mastered. It steams me to no end when I see varsity level teams that keep the second baseman and 2nd base and the SS is out on his own for the cut (or vice versa). When I see that, first I get peeved that they don't know any better, and then I tell my team that we will run on this team in every possible situation...
