With Salem's 9-2 defeat of Landstown yesterday, the Beach District season has been completed. I know the last two games have had no importance to the Eagles, but they'd be well advised to turn it around in the Tournament. Speaking from experience, both winning and losing can be contagious. I'm sure I speak for the whole District when I say I want them to represent the Beach well in Region play.

Salem 9, #1 Landstown 2
Landstown 000 002 0 — 2 5 4
Salem 100 161 x — 9 7 2
W—Moore (2-1). L—Lawhorn (7-2). HR—S, Newman (12).

Final Beach Standings:

LN 13-3
PA 12-4
Cox 11-5
OL 9-7 (2-1 in tie break games)
BA 9-7 (2-2 in tiebreak games)
KL 9-7 (1-2 in tie break games)
SA 8-8
KM 7-9 (holds tie break over FC)
FC 7-9
TW 2-14
GR 1-15

Those 6-run innings that plagued the team last year reared it's ugly has for the first time all season.

Robbie expected and got a first-pitch change-up (that hung)which he launched for his 12th HR of the year.

Lawhorn who was suppose to go only two innings, but left after the fourth.

I agree with the premise of your message Chris, but again the formula for Landstown's success relies on pitching and defense with clutch hitting. In the FC game, Senior-night (7PM start time)the team failed to get the clutch-hit with runners in scoring position and were hitting the ball on the button early but right at people. FC won the the game in the top of the 7th without the benefit a single base-hit.

It could of had had a lingering effect (flat play) on yesterday's game with half the team plus a couple JV team tarping Landstowns field prior to arriving to the game.

For Landstown to be successful in post season play, they will have to win low-scoring close games. However, they have been known to tack a few more runs on the board.

Note: I think Butler/Newman should share the POY award.

I'm going to try an catch the last two tournament games games.

Mostly, it was the first positional start for the 2nd baseman. Lawhorn left in the 4th trailing 2-0, but did not go back to his regular position at 2nd base. He was relieved by Freshman Chris Shiebel (chksp); he had made a 1 inning appearance in relief during the spring-break.

Butler was also pulled later, but did hit when his at-bat came-up.
