How bout a list of things that could be overlooked before your first game.

1. Such as, be sure to cover ............. coaching points for runners going to from 2nd to home, the trail runner on first going to third with the lead runner on 2.etc etc.

2. Field work checklist for players to be done after the games.

3. ?

Two biggest things you need to worry about are

1. Don't forget the equipment
2. Don't forget the players

Might be able to play without the first one if you are playing a nice team but without the second one you are going to lose.

Relax and tell your guys that new jobs and duties may come up as you think of them. Get into a routine about two or three weeks into the season and you will be fine.
Some thoughts:

  • 1st and 3rd offense and defense
  • Practice signs
  • Pickoffs
  • Baserunning
  • Charts – pitching, defense, …
  • Bunt defense and offense
  • Game situations with runners on base (offense and defense)
  • How are you going to defend the squeeze?
  • Equipment assignment for home and road games
  • Player waiver forms for emergencies
  • Phone Tree for all levels
  • Parent's Meeting
