Hopefully this will fly and will not be open for debate or flaming Razz
Last night, while speaaking to my son, he informed me that on Wednesday the coach is cooking Thanksgiving dinner for those boys who cannot make it home for the holiday..this guy is single and is doing this all on his own...
I was truly touched by this...and have been very impressed by this youngman since his arrival at Niagara....on Tuesday this week they played 2hand touch footbball for conditioning with the coach being the QB...they loved it...he had cookouts during fallball with the Dads doing the cooking and Moms taking it easy...and all he asked for was some desserts...nothing else...they have been running all over town...to the resevoir, up hills, down hills and it has been grueling BUT he runs with them...he has had not one disciplinary problem with the kids...they admire him...cooperate to the fullest...he never yells at them preferring instead to take them aside when they do something wrong to explain it to them...I am totally impressed with this youngman and the energy and enthusiasim he has brought to the program....God works in strange ways Smile
To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one's self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived-- this is to have succeeded. Catchermom,
Too funny, yesterday afternoon the whole team played 3 hours of touch football, they had a blast. Also, Head Coach runs with the kids as well, however, those that come in less time than he does has to do extra laps (my son still can't beat him). The coaches have a great philosophy, they also work along side the boys in the gym.
Head Coach cooks Thanksgiving dinner as well for those that remain on campus. The local boys take home some who live too far. Does really make you feel good.
Catchermom, Sound like a very similar style to my son's high school coach and the type of personality/style we're looking for in a college coach. Your son has been very fortunate in finding such a fit. God does work in many different ways-sometimes you just have to wait awhile into the journey to understand how and why. Best of luck to him and his team.
It's the time of year for conditioning and teambuilding, and it sounds like he's found an excellent formula to make those players into a unit.

Although it was in hs, my son's coach made much of how he had family and they came first. This, alas, resulted in limited practice times (and planning, as was apparent -- let alone teambuilding), and no assistance getting guys to college (with his lack of keeping proper stats for the county-state recognition awards, one could say negative assistance). When I told him the team was comprised of parents whose families were also important to them, he looked confused.....

His coach now is All Baseball, and the world is a better place for him. For the hs players working to get to college, be assured that if you're in a frustrating coaching situation now, there are good things to come in college! And if you've got a quality coach, you're well prepared.
