Please forgive my ignorance, but I have come to learn that in order for a high school player to hope to move to the next level he needs to be involved in a reputable showcase or two but perhaps more importantly to play summer ball for a quality team that plays other quality teams in order for various interested parties to see him play against good competition.   I know how to get him into a showcase, but try as I might, can't figure out how one gets hooked up with one of the good summer teams.    I would be grateful for any advice.

I am that wretch.

What part of the country are you located in?  Im sure many on here can suggest a decent team if you let us know what city and how far you are willing to drive.

Just finding a travel team will not be enough.  You will need to find an organization that has a proven track record of getting the kids in front of the right folks.  Many, many teams play in tourneys hoping a recruiter will see the kids play.  The good organizations have contacts with the colleges and either know where they will be, or have a good enough reputation that the colleges will come out to watch them play.

One issue is the rosters on these teams are usually locked in by New Years. But it is possible to make it know your son is available to be a replacement player, if needed. It's easier if he pitches.

Unless the kid is a gotta have stud, potential top ten round draft pick don't just play travel and throw spaghetti off the wall to see what sticks. Make a business plan. Decide what level/conferences the player could potentially compete in college. Select about fifty colleges from those conferences that are a fit academically, athletically, socially and culturally. Then find the right team and showcases.

Fifty may sound like a lot of colleges. But as the player goes through the process he'll cross some off and some will cross him off.
