A player on our team has very sensitive finger pads. In just one week of working out the pads are starting to turn to sores again. Has anyone experienced this problem?

Your the Doctor!!
Not from sports, but years ago my fingers pads used to split open like a banana peel. I inherited it from my dad. Dry weather, paper (in this case leather?), stress, other contact dermatitis? Who knows.
There is a "spray-on gloves" barrier product that hairdressers and nurses use to avoid their hands coming in contact with harsh chemicals. Not sure it is still on the market, but it is worth looking into.
I would have the player see a dermatologist. After many trips, and many years of different Rx products, what worked for me was wearing latex gloves while working with paper computer reports, always using rubber gloves when washing the dishes, and that "spray on gloves" barrier product - did the trick.
Just did a google search and I found this one:

Washing hands a lot, abrasive soaps & paper towels. Try New Skin, it is a liquid bandage that I have used successfully for a long time.
Thanks for the Information, this has been reoccurring the last few years. I will try the gloves in a bottle right away.
