Soph son has primarily played catcher mixed in with a little of everything else in his baseball life. This year on JV he has played catcher with a little first base and pitching. Yesterday he was taken aside by the coach who told him he's going to get a lot of catching and first base time next year. He suggested he get a first base mitt. We have never owned one. The selection at the 2 local sporting goods stores is very sparse.
Any suggestions for a good model (don't need to break the bank) or warnings about what to stay way from would be appreciated. Thanks

My son is a LH 17 year old junior who has been playing first base since he was 8. He has always used Rawlings Pro Preferred.. I think that he is on his third or fourth mitt. We would always get them about a year or year in a half before he really needed it so he would have plenty of time to break them in. Not saying they are the best. But that is what he always wanted.
