At the pro level, first baseman often block the bag when R1's dive back on a successful backpick from the catcher or  pickoff by a RHP.

When it occurs, at the minimum F3's have a foot in front of the bag.  Sometimes, F3's have their knee on the ground blocking the bag.

At the HS level, would it be bush-league to actively teach this to first baseman?

In a perfect world,  R1's would retaliate by coming in feet first ...with sharpened spikes (jk).  But, keeping it real, it doesn't happen.

Please no lectures about my level of sportsmanship.  Our local HS umpire assoc. can vouch for it.  "So I've got that going for me.."
