Well, off he goes to his first showcase at the ripe old age of 14 years old. Any words of advise for the parents about what his expectations should be? He has graphed all the times for: 60yds.; POP times; Radar Gun speed; of all the showcase participants in 2006 by graduating classes. He will grow lots from now until 2010....what numbers would be good targets for him to feel he has potential? good

I can't comment on numbers as my son's first showcase was as a 15 but what I would like to share are the goals that he had going into his first showcase:

1) Leaving knowing how showcases work. Once you have done something once, the next time you will be more comfortable and perform closer to your potential.

2) end with a feeling that you belong - e.g. are not completely outmatched. The other kids may be older, stronger and more experienced - but can you see yourself in that spot in x years?

Good luck!!!!

Tell your young man to talk to the older boys and ask questions. Lots of questions. Listen to their advice. Don't brag about himself but let others talk. Be a good listener. Listen to the coaches. If they need someone to play a position, volunteer to play it. Hustle on the field and off the field. Control his emotions. If called out on strikes, walk off with no expresion. If he hits one out round the bases like he does it all the time. And most important of all, HAVE FUN.

Parents. Sit. watch. evaluate. enjoy.

Good luck.
