Hi,
Just curious, why would someone want to go to a school with an incoming recruiting class of 20+ kids? How would you get playing time/baseball money? Do they redshirt tons of kids? I've also noticed they get many many very young commits.
Any thoughts about this?

They recruit very good players and don't shy away from recruiting guys that are likely to get drafted before they see a college field. So, they have to recruit a lot of players to account for those they will lose to the draft.
They had the #1 recruiting class for 2017 and 14 of those players were drafted. They also had six drafted from their team and three freshmen All-Americans. So, not only do they recruit very good young players but they aren't afraid to play them right away. Your player just has to be that good.
And, as with any decent college program, the wave of new challengers will come in every year.
As Cabbage posted, that's their MO. HC was previously at Alabama State and did the same there (also took them to Tallahassee Regional in 2016)
Yes I think it's fine for them, but it wouldn't be my cup of tea as a dad. Sounds like the education aspect is less emphasized in a way. Obviously Vandy does that as well, so maybe I'm being biased.
I'm sure there is a certain amount of players that they know ahead of time are unlikely to ever set foot on campus as an enrolled student. They must have looked at Heliot Ramos, for instance, as an extreme longshot to ever play for FIU (he was drafted in the 1st Round and has already signed with the Giants)
Yeah it seems like FIU is trying to be the college baseball version of a "one and done" type school, though obviously the system in baseball is different than basketball.
They have a new HC who is well connected in an area that attracts a lot of interest for players in Latin America.
It's a public school, so even without much in the way of baseball money it is very inexpensive for Florida residents.
A couple of my son's former teammates are 2017 commits, along with another handful of guys that he knows from the travel circuit.
