The politically correct NCAA backs off quickly after realizing thier lack of due diligence, at least in the case of the Seminole Tribe and Florida State University.

This led to the nations media and fans overwhelming and almost unanimous support of the Noles.

It will be interesting to see how they handle the other 16 schools on thier list.

Interesting indeed soxnole. Lets see, it seems as one of the criteria is that you have support from the local tribe. How exactly is that determined? The leader of the tribe gives his blessing? What if 49.99999999% of the local Indian population disagree with the policy of using the Indian mascot? Don't they have rights? Don't they have feelings to consider?

These are all rhetorical questions for which I don't expect answers. My only point in raising them is to point out that something is starting to smell here - big time.
ClevelandDad.

Read my post on the thread in the General Items Forum regarding Florida State and the Seminole Tribe of Florida....and Oklahoma.

The Noles case is imo, about 180 degrees from the other 16 schools in question. The bottom line is that the Seminole Tribe's of Florida and Oklahoma are firmly behind Florida State University's use of the Seminole name for over 35 years, ever since the school sought out the advice of the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
Sorry for being unclear guys. Soxnole I had read your post in the other threads. My post was purely sarcastic and was meant to illustrate the arbitrariness of it all. Of course Florida State has a great reason to keep the name. My feeling is why are we even discussing this issue? I think they should fix college football for instance before worrying about these low-level issues that most care little about.
TRHit,
I think the human mind can cope with more than one issue at a time. Yes, the dispute over the FSU mascot pales in comparison with the sad state of affairs in MS/AL/LA but discussing it in no way relegates Katrina to something less than what is was .... and is. Even the people that have lost loved ones and those that are left with nothing will have to get on with their lives. Confused
What in the world does the terrible tragedy in the gulf coast have to do with my post?

On the other hand, maybe you are incapable of multi-tasking thought processes.

I thought the post was worthwhile and pointed to the real relationship FSU has with thier namesake Tribe.

Go tell the University of Illinois how its "much to do about nothing". There is little or no chance they will be taken of the list since they have NO relationship with ANY Tribe.
Has nothing to do with the hurricane at all. It's a tradition, just like running down the hill is at Clemson and traditions should be perserved.

I was however more interested in the game. Not being a die hard Cane fan anymore, we only wanted them to win so CU could play Miami in prime time. And of course, Clemson football coach being one of those horrid Bowdens, it's always nice to see Dad get the win, when playing another team of course!
