Fly out or Sac Fly

Depends on how many outs. If there are two outs it is an error and an AB no RBI. If less than two outs it is a SAC Fly --- RBI---Error --- no AB.

Why would the number of outs make difference?
How can you have a sacrifice fly (i.e out) and the runner be on 1st?

What difference do the outs make? That's easy --- there cannot be a sac bunt or sac fly with two outs ---that is not an option. Because if the ball had been caught by the outfielder with two outs the runner does not score and the side is retired. -----

Score a sacrifice fly when, before two are out, the batter hits a fly ball or a line drive handled by an outfielder or an infielder running in the outfield which (1) is caught, and a runner scores after the catch, or (2) is dropped, and a runner scores, if in the scorer's judgment the runner could have scored after the catch had the fly been caught.

if the batter made it to first then it's an error and not a fly out or a sac fly.

That is incorrect. The play is still a sacrifice fly, the batter reaches first on the error. You don't punish the batter for the fielder's mistake.
