"In Arietta we trust." Lived in Illinois from 1992 to 2005 and went to about 3 games at Wrigley each year. Wife is a lifelong Cubs fan. Actually had tickets to last night's game (First row behind first base dugout) but sadly didn't go. (Would drive through the night to get back but getting there from New England after a day of work would be tough) Hope to go if they get to NLCS or WS as games at Wrigley are Fri-Sunday.

Being from the Northwest, people always ask me how/why I am a Cubs fan. I have a personalized Cubs license plate, so I show my support 365 days a year. I grew up watching them with my Grandpa on WGN. Back in the day, we pretty much only got to watch the Cubs (on WGN) and the Braves (on TBS) on TV. That was the only baseball broadcast in our area. Those are the fond memories I have of my Grandpa and I've been a die hard Cubs fan ever since. It's been 12 long years since we've seen the post season and I love all these young guns. Go Cubbies!

Until recently, I was a long time Boston Red Sox World Series championship sufferer.  2004 was magical and I will never/ever forget it.  I allowed my kids to stay up to watch the game on a school night.

I know exactly what Cubs fans are going through and I'm pulling for the Cubbies...bigtime!  People laugh when they see this (below) but Denis Leary isn't the only who said it back in October 2004.   They just haven't found me yet.

Similar story - finally got cable in southern WV and the only baseball on TV were Cubs and Braves.  Cubs stunk a little less than the Braves.  Shawon Dunston just came up, Sandberg was a stud, Leon Durham had a few good years until Mark Grace, Jody Davis behind the plate with Damon Berryhill ready to step in and the Hawk out in RF gimping around.  I miss those days.

Few things I didn't understand about last night

1. Why did Hurdle put 8 out of his 9 hitters in as RHH?  You're facing probably the Cy Young winner who is a RHP so why stack it that way?

2.  How dumb is that pitcher who hit Arrieta?  It's playoff baseball - you're not trying to hit anyone.  Plus the second guy got hit with a curve and it put two runners on for McCutcheon.  Why would you want to bring up a guy who can go yard and cut the lead down to a run?

3.  Will the Gatorade cooler be able to recover in time for next season?  He took a beating.

I'm going out on a limb here - when the Cubs win a World Series this year or in next few years this will mean that Theo Epstein is the smartest guy to ever grace baseball and should be in the Hall of Fame.

Those are all the players I grew up watching. I loved watching Sandberg, Grace, Dunston, and the Hawk. And who can forget Davis. So many fond memories.

As an aside, my dog's name is Wrigley

The game, the brawl, the death threat and the cooler were probably more entertaining for me than it should have been because the Cubs were winning. You could see the desperation in the eyes of the Pirates players. Twitter had a grand old time with the brawl and the cooler punching, but the best were the gifs of Rodriguez threatening the entire Cubs field. That guy lost it and the poor cooler paid the price.

My first memories were with Jose Cardinale, Rick Monday, Manny Trillo, Bill Buckner, Jerry Morales, The Rueschel brothers ....Originally Posted by Everyday Dad:

Grew up with Banks, Santo, Williams, Jenkins etc....

They would avoid the main east/west artery street to the Edens expressway and take my side street instead to the expressway.

Would wait a hour or so after the game to get their autographs at the stop sign.

BTW, did not get around to putting up how I became a cubs fan.  Grew up in Detroit in the 80s.  Was a tiger fan growing up but when cable tv came around I was enthralled with watching the cubs play at wrigley.  Something about the stadium in the middle of the neighborhood with no lights drew me in.  Fast forward to the mid 90s after college, I moved to Chicago for my job.  First week here I was handed a set of cubs tickets.  Headed down to the stadium and fell in love with the whole ambiance of the cubs and wrigley field.  I now say the Tigers are my AL team but the Cubs are my team.  If the Cubs are playing Detroit I will root for the Cubs every time.

Similar story - about 10 years ago a guy I played college with went to Chicago to watch two games at Wrigley and one at White Sox.  The Cubs got beat in both games to the Diamondbacks and the Sox beat the Tigers in a close game.  The ambiance of Wrigley is so much better than anywhere else.  The Sox had music playing the whole time and the PA guy kept saying "lets get fired up" and stuff like that.  Loved the game at Tigers but couldn't enjoy it due to all the extra stuff.  Wrigley it was about the game and much enjoyable.

I can only imagine the atmosphere last night and what it's going to be in the NLCS.

Born and raised in Chicago, going to Cub games all my life, walking in the house after school to hear Jack Brickhouse on the radio/tv...then Harry Caray...defending the Cubs year after year against vocal Sox fans...I am in baseball heaven.  One of my favorite things about this team is that they look like they are having so much fun and are so relaxed.  This is how baseball should be!

It must be...it has to be.  There is nothing more that can explain this phenomena.  Possibly an Astros - Cubbies World Series?  Get out?
