The Jaguars played stellar defense and hit the cover off the ball to beat CC Carroll 11-2. It was a tight game all the way into the bottom of 7 with the Jags up 2-1. In the bottom half of the inning CC Carroll tied it up after a controversial "tag up" on a fly ball that was appealed by FMHS. The Jags did not get the call on the appeal so the game went to extra innings. In the top of the 8th Vinson led off with a single followed by a 2 run homer by Wes Jones. The Jags continued to hit around until Vinson and Jones came up for the second time in the 8th inning and hit back to back homeruns! Stellar pitching by freshmen Seth Jordan (who struck out 10) and excellent defense kept the Jags in the game until they broke out the sticks in the 8th. Top hitters were Wes Jones 3-4 2 HRs; Andrew Vinson 3-4 1 HR; Tyler Pollok 4-5; Evan Robinson 2-4; and Mark McCants and AJ Jones each got a hit. Vinson, Jones, McCants, and Robinson are all signed to play college ball and are having a great beginning to their senior season.

its funny that when an umpire makes a call.. on one side it is a "good call" on the other it is called bad or controversial...

Why could you have not said... In the bottom half of the inning CC Carroll tied it up after a sacrifice fly ball. The Jags did not get the call on the appeal so the game went to extra innings.

I guess if FM would have lost it would have been the umpires fault....

This is pretty defensive, he didn't say it was a good call or bad call. Saying something is controversial is fine because it may well have been controversial. Controversial is neutral here.

...and why did you have to say, "hit the cover off the ball" ????

Doesn't this kind of graphical imagery depicting violence toward baseballs just serve to promote rap music and further contribute to the tearing down of our society ?

If it is a close call that could have gone either way, it is, by definition, controversial. It's not like he said it was a blown call. Don't be so defensive!

So which is it? Your thread topic proclaims victory for FMHS over #1 ranked team in the state, implying that preseason rankings are meaningful. It is inconsistent to disparage rankings when it suits you, then leverage those same rankings when the rankings cast favor on the team you support.

The blown call(IMO) was the initial 2 run homer in the top of the 8th that gave FM the lead. The ball was left of the left foul poll and never landed beyond the outfield fence. It landed over the sideline fence. CCC was extremely frustrated and lost their momentum. They pulled the pitcher. The relief pitcher was very hittable and FM jumped on him. A controversial balk call that resulted in a run just added to the CCC troubles.

You hit the nail on the head RLB. I said it was controversial because it was controverted. As in "con·tro·vert·ed, con·tro·vert·ing, con·tro·verts
To raise arguments against; voice opposition to. FMHS felt like the kid left early and that by definition means they opposed the tag. They lost the argument and everyone moved on. No complaining by coaches.

TX-Ump74, if you are that overly sensitive when people question calls maybe you are in the wrong business? It is part of the game and there will always be deferring opinions about hits, errors, strikes, balls, etc.

LOL, very nice. Something has to be the root cause to the downgrade of society. I would rather, attribute it to: video games and cell phones, both "eat up", way to much time, of this generation's live'sWink
